Representative of Transparency International- Macedonia, Ms. Marija Sunchevska participated on the conference: “Regional Exchange on Strengthening Campaign Finance Systems and Practices” organized by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) held in Warsaw on 21 and 22 February 2024. On the conferences were presented different perspectives and good practices in the regulation of the financing of political parties and campaign financing. Experts from the Western Balkans and wider shared the domestic regulation and implementation of the law regulating this area in practice.
The conference was consisted of five sessions. The first session was related to the international framework for campaign finance regulation and developments and challenges across the Western Balkans. The objective of the session was to map relevant standards, principles and good practices pertaining to the financing of electoral campaigns and their oversight, including in relation to under-represented groups.
The second session covered the practices related to contributions and expenditures limits versus circumvention concerns. During this session were explored the regulatory challenges associated with expanding financing sources, including online. How to manage limitations, third-party and foreign funding dynamics.
The third session was on disclosing and reporting on campaign finance: comparative experiences and digital solutions.
The forth session covered the oversight of campaign finance. The objective of the session was to explore and devise practical, collaborative, and effective strategies aimed at ensuring robust oversight of campaign finance, particularly in the context of resource constraints.
The final session the speakers presented the forеseen sanctions related to campaign finance for effective enforcement respectively for their countries.
