The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of North Macedonia and Transparency International – Macedonia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening collaboration in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
The signed Memorandum seeks to enable joint action toward improving the overall situation in combating corruption and organized crime, as well as the mutual exchange of data, experience, and expertise. The main focus of the memorandum is the mutual cooperation between the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Transparency International – Macedonia in identifying and overcoming the challenges and conditions faced by the Prosecutor’s Office.
To that end, we wish to inform the wider public that in the coming period, we will begin preparing activities aimed at conducting an in-depth analysis of the issues, while also examining the circumstances that hinder the Prosecutor’s Office from performing its work effectively. One of the main obstacles remains the unresolved negative consequences of recent amendments to the Criminal Code, which have led to and continue to result in the statute of limitations expiring on corruption-related offenses.
In pursuit of this goal, we invite all domestic and international stakeholders to take part in the joint efforts in the fight against corruption.
The Memorandum outlines, among other things, the following:
- Joint cooperation in the exchange of information related to the competent processing of reports submitted by citizens;
- Providing support, advice, analyses, recommendations, and training in the area of whistleblower protection to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as one of the leading institutions designated to receive whistleblower reports;
- Cooperation in the preparation of policy documents in the areas of anti-corruption, rule of law, and protected reporting, as well as participation in the implementation of joint projects in the field of combating corruption.
