28.02.2018 The Minister of Defence, Radmila Shekerinska, met today with Metodi Zajkov, Secretary General of Transparency International for Macedonia, and Karolina MacLachlan, Research and Policy Manager – Conflict and Insecurity from the International Office of Transparency International.
On the meeting the Ministry of Defence expressed its interest to be included in the Government Defence Anti-Corruption Index of Transparency International, where assessments are carried out on the effectiveness and enforcement of institutional and informal controls to manage the risk of corruption in defence and security institutions.
The goal of the inclusion will be to improve the work of the defence and security institutions of the Republic of Macedonia, strengthen their anti-corruption agenda and, in this manner, increase the confidence in them.
Several countries in the region (Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina) have already been included in the Transparency International Anti-corruption Index, but unfortunately this was not the case with the Republic of Macedonia.
With these steps the Ministry of Defence and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia emphasize their strong political will for greater transparency, accountability and real fight against corruption.
