The event was opened by the honorary president of Transparency International-Macedonia, Ms. Sladjana Taseva, who pointed that the report was prepared during 2022 and 2023 within the project “EU4 Rule of Law: Citizen Engagement for Public Integrity (CEPI) in the Western Balkans and Turkey”, which is funded by the European Union and the Government of Switzerland.
The Deputy Head of Mission of the Delegation of the European Union, Mr. Ben Nupnau and the Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Veronique Hulman emphasized the importance of this report in the fight against corruption.
The honorary president of TI-Macedonia, Ms. Sladjana Taseva, used this opportunity to introduce the newly elected president of Transparency International-Macedonia, Mr. Blagoja Pandovski.
Ms. Taseva remains a member of the Governing Board of TI-Macedonia.
After the opening remarks, Ms. Taseva presented the results of the National Integrity System. She emphasized that the Macedonian system for national integrity continues to be characterized by the dominance of the executive power and the weakness of other key institutions. The executive and legislative branches are particularly strong in terms of their capacity, but weak in terms of anti-corruption and the need to improve their internal governance.
Mr. Taseva highlighted the weakest and best rated pillars. The weakest pillars in the National Integrity System: the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary.
The best-rated pillars according to the report are the State Audit Office and the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption.
The president of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption, Ms. Biljana Ivanovska, pointed out the importance of integrity and emphasized the transparency of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption. Mr. Ivanovska highlighted that the SCPC has fulfilled the recommendations given in the previous National Integrity System, which was published in 2016.
The event was closed by Mr. Maksim Acevski, General State Auditor, who presented the methodological acts for the prevention of corruption, the integrity policy, as well as other documents and acts that confirm the results and transparency of the State Audit Office.
