Today, on 9 December, with a conference under the topic: “Integrity as a Tool in the Fight Against Corruption” marked the international anti-corruption day. At the conference “Integrity as a Tool in the Fight Against Corruption,” high-level representatives from government institutions, the judiciary, civil society, and international partners discussed why integrity and accountability must remain at the centre of reforms, especially as the latest EC Progress Report highlights limited progress in this area.
The celebration of this day was used by the representatives of the executive, legislative and judicial authorities, the non-governmental sector and representatives of international organizations to discuss the integrity of institutions and public office holders as a powerful tool in the fight against corruption.
The conference was addressed by: Mr. Blagoja Pandovski, President of Transparency International-Macedonia; H.E. Mr. Ben Nupnau, Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia; Mr. Ljupčo Kocevski, Public Prosecutor of the Republic of North Macedonia; Mr. Zoran Dimitrievski, Supreme Judge; Mr. Maksim Acevski, State Auditor and Mr. Adem Čučulj, President of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption.
The leaders from different sectors had the opportunity to give their views on the topic of integrity, how integrity is built in their own institutions and how it affects the fight against corruption. The speakers emphasized their commitment to promoting inter-institutional and cooperation with other stakeholders in creating effective policies and activities that would prevent corrupt behavior by public office holders.
Transparency International Macedonia also launched the new Integrity Watch Platform, , a comprehensive open data tool – that enables citizens, journalists, researchers, and institutions to easily track who finances politics, how public money is spent and who receive concessions.
This platform brings together three high-risk areas for corruption:
- Political party financing
- Public procurement
- Concessions for mineral resources and small hydropower plants.
The Integrity Watch Platforms provides:
- Transparent,user-friendly access to public data
- Tools to cross-check and analyse political integrity information
- Greater oppurtunities for oversight and public accountability.
